Gunasekhar has recently announced a new mythological film Shakuntalam as Rana Daggubati’s Hiranyakashyapa has been postponed due to Coronavirus. Gunasekhar is currently working on a mythological tale titled Shakuntalam, which is said to be set in the Himalayas. Just after a week of the announcement, many rumours arose of who would be the lead actress of the mythological film.
According to the latest reports, Anushka Shetty or Pooja Hegde is likely to play the lead role in the film. Anushka Shetty collaborated with Gunasekhar for Rudhramadevi and portrayed a powerful character in the film. As Pooja Hegde never played such a mythological character till now, fans are excited to watch her, if the rumours are anything to go by. However, the cast and crew of the film is not officially announced.
Talking about the film in a recent interview, the director said, “In the Aadiparva of Mahabharata, the story of Shaakuntalam and Dushyantha is very interesting. The film will be an on-screen adaptation of Kalidas’ Abnignana Shaakuntalam. I think it is one of the greatest love stories ever told and the story will be set in the Himalayas. The idea for the film came to be during the lockdown (sic.)
