While 2023 was a great year for the Telugu audience with some noteworthy movie releases, the OTT releases of some most entertaining movies like ‘Bhola Shankar’, ‘Dasara’, ‘Bro’, ‘Miss Shetty Mr Polishetty’, ‘MAD’, and ‘Kushi’ in 2023 were streamed on Netflix. With nearly a dozen big-ticket movies up for their releases, Netflix has acquired rights for multiple Telugu movies for 2024.
On the auspicious occasion of Makar Sankranti, the video streaming giant- Netflix has formally revealed the list of twelve Telugu movies that will be available in its 2024 lineup. Following their theatrical debut, these movies will be available on Netflix as part of their massive 2024 schedule, which also features the recently released movie “Salaar Part 1- Ceasefire,” Jr. NTR’s most-anticipated movie-“Devara,” and Allu Arjun’s “Pushpa 2- The Rule.”
Salaar Part 1-Ceasefire:
Starring Prabhas and Shruti Haasan in the lead roles, it was released in time for the 2023 Christmas season. Starring Malayalam sensation Prithviraj Sukumaran in a major role, the Prashanth Neel-directed film was a box office hit. The film will soon be available on Netflix.
Devara Part 1:
Directed by Koratala Siva, Jr. NTR will play the sea hero Devara in Devara Part 1. Introducing Bollywood actress Janhvi Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan to the Telugu audience, ‘Devara’ is one of the most anticipated upcoming movies. The movie’s rights have been purchased by Netflix, which plans to release it soon after its theatrical debut.
Pushpa 2- The Rule:
‘Pushpa 2- The Rule’, starring Allu Arjun, is the sequel to the 2021 hit “Pushpa: The Rise — Part 1.” Directed by Sukumar, the movie stars Rashmika Mandanna in the female lead role, while Malayalam sensation Fahad Fassil essay the villain. From the moment of its announcement, the Chittoor-based story, which revolves around the sandalwood smuggling syndicate, has garnered a great deal of attention.
UV Creations’ as-yet-to-be-titled production 12, starring Karthikeya; Sprint Screens’ untitled film starring Nandamuri Balakrishna; Ga2 Pictures’ production No 9 featuring Narne Nithin; Mango Mass’ untitled film with Siddhu; Sithara Entertainments’ “Tillu Square,” a sequel to 2022 hit “DJ Tillu,” also starring Siddhu; and Sprint Screens’ untitled film starring Vijay Devarakonda, complete Netflix’s 2024 lineup.
All of the movies will also be available in dubbing in the other three southern Indian languages, Kannada, Tamil, and Malayalam, as well as, for the most part, Hindi, the language of the north.
According to Monika Shergill, Vice President of Content at Netflix India, the strong appeal of Netflix’s Telugu movie offering is reflected in the 50% year-over-year growth in South content viewing. “With the biggest stars in the industry and the best Telugu blockbuster films, this year’s lineup is sure to enthrall viewers everywhere”, she stated.
