Mahi V. Raghav surprised everyone and scored a blockbuster with Yatra (2019,) a biopic of Y. S. Rajasekhar Reddy, the late Chief Minister of the combined state of Andhra Pradesh. He was lauded for the way he showcased the political journey of Y. S. Rajasekhar Reddy and also the perfect casting of Mammootty for the lead role. The director is now set to make another biopic, this time on Y. S. Jagan, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh and son of late Y. S. Rajasekhar Reddy.
The director Mahi V. Raghav sees Jagan’s journey from an underdog to the leader of masses as an inspiration. He also feels this is a story not limited to the Telugu audience and has a national appeal. Keeping in mind the pan Indian scale of the story, Mahi V. Raghav approached Pratik Gandhi of Scam 1992 web series fame and narrated the script which the actor apparently fell in love with. The biopic is said to narrate the story starting from before the death of Y. S. Rajasekhar Reddy and show the political journey of Y. S. Jagan.
Pre Production works for this biopic will start as soon as the Coronavirus pandemic subsides. Mahi V. Raghav also announced a sequel to Yatra after its release. We have to wait and see if this is the sequel or there is another script in the works. Yatra was bankrolled by producers Vijay Chilla and Sashi Devireddy under the banner 70mm Entertainments.
