CHUP Story:
Chup movie revolves around a psychopath serial killer who brutally murders the critics for their fake reviews of worthwhile movies. Arvind Mathur(Sunny Deol) takes charge of the investigation and finds a similar pattern in all the murders. Thus, he learns more about the killer and gets close to him, but by the end, he misses catching him. Will Arvind be able to catch the killer before the next murder happens? This forms a gripping narrative for the rest of the film.
On-Screen Performances:
Dulquer Salmaan is the show-stealer of the film. He completely justifies this complex character and makes the audience fall in love with every bit of his performance. In his solo scenes, or his chemistry with Shreya, or whatever in the film, Dulquer Salmaan excelled in every part of the film. Dulquer’s body language is so convincing that one can feel the actor’s presence and life in the skin of the character. Dulquer’s approach to the portrayal of the character is unique. If not Dulquer, it might be hard to imagine any other actor in his role.
Sunny Deol is very natural yet very intense in his performance. He is the perfect choice to play the investigation officer. There is not much action for the actor, but he serves the thrilling purpose to the fullest throughout the investigation in the film.
Shreya in the role of the young journalist is suitable and justified perfectly. Her innocence will definitely be liked by everyone. Her chemistry with Dulquer is the main highlight of her performance.
Saranya and Pooja Bhatt are good in their roles.

The plot of the film itself serves the idea of questioning the criticism around movies and even gives very intellectual answers. It is a sort of thought-provoking idea that delivers a strong message by the end. Balki deserves all the appreciation for choosing such a subject and delivering it, letting the drama not become an orientation program. Even the film’s thrilling elements are very intense and intriguing. Also, Balki made sure that the film served some sort of romance with a beautifully penned and realistic love story between Dulquer and Shreya. Making violence an integral part of the film was an intelligent move by Balki so that the audience would not be disturbed at regular intervals by the excess parts of it.
Balki’s screenplay is the best part of the entire film. The film has a great flow of story with timely twists and turns. The story actually unfolds with all those twists and turns, and that’s brilliant screenwriting from Balki, without diverting from the film’s plot for a second. Balki explored the psyche of the serial killer in the right manner so that the audience gets connected even with the killer and starts rooting for him. Balki also brought back the good old memories of the legend of Indian cinema, Guru Dutt.
Dialogues are very situational and suitable. They have a huge purpose in the better understanding of this focused thriller.
Cinematography is excellent, especially the close-ups in most of the scenes.
Music of Chup is as haunting as it is soothing. The use of classic Hindi songs in bits in the background throughout the narrative is appreciable.
All the technical aspects of the film fall into perfect proportions. Editing needs a special mention for chipping off those additional bits and making the film much more gripping.
