RRR is India’s most successful film at international level in terms of popularity, craze and collections to date. But all these factors could not help RRR to get into the Oscar nominations in the category of best international feature. It is known to us all that the film RRR was rejected by the Indian jury to submit for the Oscar nominations in 2022. Last Film Show, a Gujarathi film, was selected for the Oscar nominations instead by the Indian jury. This left a huge disappointment for many Indian film lovers. Even the Hollywood filmmakers were shocked to know that the Indian jury did not select RRR for the Oscar nominations. A lot of opposition was raised from the Indians towards the jury for not selecting RRR. Well, putting an end to this all, the jury members opened up and revealed their reasons for rejecting RRR for an Oscar nomination.
TS Nagabharana, one of the committee members of the Film Federation Of India (FFI), expressed the views of the committee in not selecting RRR for Oscar nominations. He revealed the reasons that collections and popularity are not just required for the film to get an Oscar nomination and so RRR was not considered. He said that the committee members looked for an emotional connection more than entertainment among the 17 movies they considered, and they finally felt that the film Last Film Show had that emotional touch with the most realistic approach of all. He also revealed that Last Film Show was chosen unanimously and there was no politics behind that.
FFI is very confident that their decision will be justified at the nominations this time and then the Indian film lovers will recognise the decision made by the Indian jury. On the other hand, RRR still has the chance to get an Oscar nomination in the other categories, best picture, best director, and best original screenplay.
