Most actresses in the South film industry proclaim filmmakers try to portray them as just glam dolls in the movies. Shraddha Srinath, who is known to speak her heart out without any hesitation, opened up about the portrayal of actresses in the South Indian films.
She said in a recent interview there aren’t meaty rules for women in South Indian films. “I would often complain that down South, we actresses do not get a meaty role on screen and we are just asked to stay pretty. I am totally against such roles and those who write such roles (sic.)”
Shraddha Srinath, whose debut film Jersey has been selected for screening at the International Indian Film Festival Toronto (IIFFT,) spoke about her character Sarah, experience from the film, and her sister’s reaction after watching Jersey. Speaking about Jersey’s experience, Shraddha Srinath said, “For me, Jersey was like discovering new parts of me as an actor and exploring my abilities. It felt like I had taken the right step in the right direction and thus, Jersey will always remain special to me. It has helped me grow (sic.)”
She also revealed how she wanted the audience to like and dislike Sarah, the character she plays in the film. She was glad to convince the audience that she is a mean wife to her husband. She says, “After my sister watched the film, she immediately asked me why I am such a horrible wife to my husband and I was shocked that, that is all she took away with her from the film. I felt that the audience, at some point in time, will empathise with Sarah and feel bad for her. It was a conflicting character as she faces a lot of battles in her life (sic.)”
