Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Mani Ratnam’s protege and a Bollywood actress, is all set to play the main antagonist of Mani Ratnam’s magnum opus, Ponniyin Selvan. Aishwarya confirmed the same during a press meet at the recently concluded Cannes Film Festival that she is thrilled to work with her guru again.
In fact, Aishwarya returns to her alma mater, the Mani Ratnam school, after nearly a decade of making Raavan (2010.) If reports are to be believed, she will play Princess Nandini, the main woman antagonist of the classic novel Ponniyin Selvan by late Tamil literary great, Kalki Krishnamurthy.
For years, it was a dream of Mani Ratnam to make a celluloid version of Ponniyin Selvan. Lyca Productions is bankrolling the movie, but there are talks of Mani Ratnam considering Jio Studios to co produce it.
