Director Gunasekhar is currently working on a mythological tale titled Shaakuntalam, which is said to be set in the Himalayas. On the occasion of the New Year, the makers announced the lead actress and also released the title motion poster of the film.
As Shaakuntalam is set to be a woman centric film, Samantha Akkineni, who has proved her mettle with intriguing performances, was roped in to play the lead role in this mythological film. This will be the first time the audience will get to witness Samantha as a mythic character and fans are pretty much excited about it.
In the music of Mani Sharma, the title motion poster looks classic and superb. The makers tweeted the news on Twitter, ”Watch the Title Motion Poster of @Gunasekhar1’s #Shaakuntalam, A #ManiSharma Musical, Produced by @neelima_guna #EpicLoveStory > (sic.)”

Shaakuntalam is an upcoming film, which is said to be the story of Shakuntala, the daughter of the sage Vishwamitra and the apsara Menaka. Speaking about the film, director Gunasekhar said, “Shakuntala and Dushyant’s tale of love by Kalidasa was the first Indian drama ever to be translated into a western language. It was translated by Sir William Jones in 1789. And by the next hundred years, 1889, the play was translated into 46 languages including Norwegian, French, Austrian, and Italian (sic.)”
Fans have huge expectations from Shaakuntalam, as the director’s previous film Rudhramadevi did wonders at the box office. Shaakuntalam will be bankrolled by Neelima Guna under the Gunaa Teamworks banner. Mani Sharma will be composing music.
