Suriya’s Retro features Pooja Hegde as the female lead. Hers is a meaty role in this Karthik Subbaraj directorial.
2D Entertainment was initially skeptical about Pooja’s ability to pull off a role that involved long Tamil-language lines. “The only concern was whether she could deliver dialogues fluently in Tamil. But Pooja, known for taking on challenges since her childhood, confidently assured the team that she would overcome this too. After an impressive look test, she began her daily Tamil training and surprised everyone by delivering even lengthy monologue sequences flawlessly. There were plenty of fun moments on set, with the team confusing her with tougher Tamil words,” the makers said.
Pooja Hegde is dubbing in her own voice for the first time in a regional film, the makers added.
Retro will hit the screens on May 1st. Sithara Entertainments’ Suryadevara Naga Vamsi will be releasing the movie in Telugu. The release rights are held by the top-tier banner in Andhra and Telangana. Retro is produced jointly by Stone Bench Films and 2D Entertainment. Malayalam actor Joju George, Jayaram, Prakash Raj and Karunakaran are essaying pivotal roles. Santhosh Narayanan is the music director.
