“Narappa” Telugu Movie Review:
Story:
The movie follows Narappa, a poor farmer and his family. When his younger son kills the wealthy and influential landowner of their village as retribution, Narappa and his family are forced to flee to save their lives. What will Narappa do to save his family? Forms the rest of the story.
Performances:
Venkatesh’s capabilities as an actor are truly evident in Narappa. The actor essays a layered character as a timid father and man with a past. Venkatesh carries the role effortlessly and delivers his career best performance in and as Narappa. Priyamani as Sundaramma, Narappa’s wife, does a commendable job with the exception of dubbing to her character. Karthik Ratnam is natural as the hot headed son of Narappa, and does well in the short screen time given to him. Seasoned actors like Rajiv Kanakala, Rao Ramesh and Naren are adequate in their roles.
Highlights:
Narappa is the remake of the Tamil movie Asuran, which starred Dhanush. Narappa stays true to the original and is a good remake. The original movie’s essence is not lost in the remake and this Srikanth Addala’s work is convincing and even deeply impactful at times. Apart from Venkatesh, who owns the movie, Narappa tactfully deals with a sensitive topic, is raw and gritty at times and is something mainstream Telugu cinema has been missing. The movie excels technically with a cinematography that only adds to the sombre vibe. Another highlight of the movie is definitely the background music composed by G. V. Prakash Kumar, which was taken from the original and Mani Sharma’s songs, which add the right emotion.
Verdict:
Narappa is equal parts dramatic and realistic and is a story that deserves to be told. For those who have watched Asuran, Narappa might not be just as good. However, Narappa is captivating with excellent acting from the cast, especially Venkatesh and makes for an interesting watch. Head over to the OTT platform Prime Video to watch Narappa, if intense family action dramas are your jam.
