In an exclusive interview with Telugu Film Nagar, legendary Telugu director K. Vijay Bhaskar—known for timeless masterpieces like Prarthana, Swayamvaram, Nuvve Kavali, Nuvvu Naaku Nachav, Manmadhudu, and Malliswari—shared a wealth of knowledge. In his jovial conversation with us, he talked about his experiences making the films.
K Vijay Bhaskar has created movies, that are larger than life. The Telugu audience has always loved his films for their understated yet elegant humour as well as their realistic emotions. One among those classics helmed by K Vijay Bhaskar is Nagarjuna, Sonali Bendre & Anshu starrer ‘Manmadhudu’.
“Nagarjuna is an easy actor,” stated Vijay Bhaskar of Manmadhudu hero Akkineni Nagarjuna. He readily accepts the story’s core once he understands it. He plays his part with great conviction and doesn’t meddle in other matters.
“We did the iconic escalator scene from Manmadhudu as soon as Brahmanandam garu landed,” Vijay Bhaskar explained, elaborating on one of the movie’s most famous scenes. He left India for France, and we urged him to get ready for a scene. He prepared for that specific movie scene right there in the airport.”
Vijay Bhaskar elaborated, saying that Nagarjuna approached the comedic parts with a new style of acting. “Acting in certain scenes would have been unsettling for any actor of that caliber. Nagarjuna has to hide under the table in one of the scenes. Heroes typically don’t feel at ease in these kinds of circumstances. However, Nagarjuna is an actor with zero inhibitions. Vijay Bhaskar stated, “You can see that in certain scenes, through his expressions in Manmadhudu, that he has given his all.”
The director continued by describing how Nagarjuna refused to accept a dupe (to perform the stunt) in the pivotal sequence, in which he was forced to jump into a large water body. Vijay Bhaskar further praised Rockstar Devi Sri Prasad for his significant contribution to Manmadhudu’s enormous success and subsequent status as a timeless classic.
