India is known for its love of Cricket, a sport which is followed with a religious zeal by the Indian masses and the players representing the nation are often treated as idols. A lot of other sports in Indian are often overshadowed by Cricket nowadays but once in a while the nation is reminded that other sports and athletes exist who equally make India proud with their accomplishments on the world stage.
One such athlete is Karnam Malleshwari, who won a bronze medal at the 2000 Olympics in the weight lifting category making her the first Indian woman athlete to win an Olympic medal. Karnam Malleshwari became an Indian hero and was awarded the Rajiv Khel Ratna Award by the Indian government in honour of her achievements.
Noted Tollywood producer Kona Venkat met Karnam Malleswari, who hails from Amadalavalasa of the Srikakulam district, Andhra Pradesh. One of the purposes of the meeting was to acquire exclusive rights to make the biopic. It now looks like the biopic is finally coming to fruition with an official announcement made. The announcement was made to coincide with the birthday of Karnam Maleshwari which is today.

The biopic is a welcome change in Tollywood and is much needed at the moment. The new age Tollywood audience wants fresh content and are now open to more realistic and diverse content. Kona Venkat is currently busy with his upcoming project Nishabdham which stars Anushka Shetty and Madhavan. The movie is a thriller where Anushka Shetty plays the role of a mute artist.
