Other than Cricket, if India is popularly known for any other sport, then it is Weightlifter. When you hear the word Weightlifter, the only name that comes to mind is Olympic Bronze Medal winner Karnam Malleswari, a great Indian figure about whom a biopic is being made.
In June, 2020, it was announced that Filmmaker Sanjana Reddy, who made her directorial debut with Raju Gadu in 2018, will be helming the biopic of weightlifter Karnam Malleswari.
Noted Telugu writer and Producer Kona Venkat is bankrolling the Karnam Malleswari biopic under the banner of Kona Film Corporation. A few reports in the last few days claimed that due to unknown reasons, the biopic has been shelved. Responding to the reports, Kona Venkat took to Twitter and said the film is very much on and the work is in progress. The producer wrote in the tweet, “Karanam Malliswari” is a Pan Indian movie of a legendary sports woman @kmmalleswari .. It takes time to create a master piece.. All works are in progress ..The biopic is going to inspire this generation (sic.)”
