Superstar Rajinikanth, a name which became an evergreen brand in Indian cinema, never ceases to entertain his fans with his formulaic films which show his heroism.
Star director A.R. Murugadoss too is a force to be reckoned with when it comes to storytelling. When both these phenomena unite, a magical movie like Darbar is created.
Movie Details:
Cast: Rajinikanth, Nayantara, Suniel Shetty, Nivetha Thomas and Yogi Babu
Direction: A.R. Murugadoss
Music: Anirudh Ravichander
Story:
Aadithya Arunachalam (Rajinikanth) is an upright Commissioner of Police in Mumbai. He becomes an encounter specialist who goes on a killing spree of many criminal elements in Mumbai. His higher ups get a tinge of doubt regarding his operations and get a parallel investigation started by the Human Rights Commission to find out the culprit responsible for the killings of the criminals and the motive of the criminals. They come to know Aadithya is actually on the hunt for the person who killed his daughter, Valli (Nivetha Thomas.)
Slowly, Aadithya finds out the main culprit was Hari Chopra (Suniel Shetty,) a local gangster and hatches a plan to kill him. Does Aadithya succeed in his attempts? How does he manage to justify the murders committed by him to the Human Rights Commission? This forms the crux of Darbar.
Review:
Darbar, as is with every Rajinikanth movie, is a one man show. Rajinikanth fantastically carries the movie on his nimble shoulders and does not look his age. He is a man on a mission, mostly engaged in some action sequences. However, he has a little love track with Lily (Nayantara,) which does not majorly impact the movie.
Rajinikanth delivers in another of his forte—comedy. His scenes with Yogi Babu cater to the mass audience.
The next best performer in the movie is Nivetha Thomas, who proves she is one of the finest actresses of this era. Her scenes with Rajinikanth are the highlights of Darbar.
Music director Anirudh Ravichander gives a good background score as this is a cop drama. A.R. Murugadoss delivers a faithful attempt to satiate Rajinikanth’s fans’ wishes with Darbar.
Darbar is a fun ride. Do go for it if you are a Rajinikanth fan!
