Gopichand paved his own way in Tollywood and he became one of the most successful commercial heroes today. Behind his status today, there are a lot of struggles. Gopichand made his debut as a hero, but later he turned out to be a villain because there were no more offers for him as a hero after the failure of his debut film. Gopichand reminisced about his struggles to become a successful hero in a recent interview during the promotion of his upcoming film, Pakka Commercial.
After completing his graduation, Gopichand decided to be an actor in Tollywood. He approached his family members and took their suggestions on this. After many discussions, Gopichand was finally given an opportunity as the lead actor in a movie titled Tholivalapu. The film was not successful at the box office. As a result, no director or producer approached Gopichand for more than 6 months. Finally, he got a call from the director Teja and was offered to play a villain role in the film Jayam. Gopichand felt that the role was very powerful and he accepted to play it. In the role of the villain, Gopichand impressed the director and the audience too. So he got the next two opportunities as a villain in the films Nijam and Varsham. Gopi gave exceptional performances in both the films, and he got a lot of applause. Gopi then thought that he needed to continue his film career with a villain role only, but luckily, Gopi was offered to play the lead role in the film Yagnam, and from then, there was no turning back. Gopi continued to play the hero in all of the films and is still considered one of the most successful commercial heroes today.
Gopichand was asked in the interview whether he would accept the villain roles even now, if offered alongside any star hero by the star director. Gopichand replied that he is open to villain roles even today, but with two conditions. Firstly, he should love the story and his character. Secondly, his character should not be confined to action episodes with the hero. Instead, it should be strong enough, just like the hero’s role, and it should drive the film forward throughout its run time, stated Gopichand in the interview.
Gopichand’s upcoming movie Pakka Commercial is going to be released on July 1st. Maruthi is the director, and Bunny Vas is the producer. Geetha Arts is presenting the film. Raashii Khanna is the lead actress. Jakes Bejoy composed the music for the film.
