Legendary singer S.P. Balasubrahmanyam, who passed away yesterday due to COVID-19, will be laid to rest at his farmhouse in Chennai today with full state honours, announced Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaswami on September 25. The musical maestro’s last rites were held by his family members at his farmhouse at 11 A.M. today.
After performing all the rituals, his body was kept for public homage and several politicians, musicians and fans paid their last respects to the legendary singer at his Chennai house. Since many people turned up in large numbers, the municipal corporation officials did not permit them to keep his body in Nungambakkam for public homage. The body is currently being cremated by his son S.P. Charan at his farmhouse in Chennai with government honours.
“Today, on account of the funeral of S.P. Balasubrahmanyam, we have made elaborate security arrangements. We have deployed around 500 personnel, separate traffic police team is also there to take care of traffic issues,” Aravindan, SP Thiruvallore, told the agency.

S.P. Balasubrahmanyam passed away on September 25 after being hospitalised for 50 days. He was 74 years old. Several close celebrities from the south industry paid tribute to him through virtual as it’s difficult to visit his body in Chennai due to the COVID-19 crisis.
