118, a movie which created quite the sensation all over social media with its fantastic teaser and trailer cut, hit theatres today. With an interesting storyline weaved around a unique concept, 118 is a sure shot entertainer. K.V. Guhan, the cinematographer who worked on some of the biggest movies such as Dookudu and Dhoni, Seethamma Vakitlo Sirimalle Chettu, for the first time, tried his hand at direction with 118. K.V. Guhan and Kalyan Ram paired up for this interesting thriller.

Story:

The story of 118 is woven around the concept of lucid dreaming. Goutam (Kalyan Ram) is a journalist who works at a major TV channel. His world revolves around a group of friends who usually spend a lot of time with his girlfriend, Megha (Shalini Pandey,) and him. On a fine day, Goutam and his friends go out on a trekking trip with cameras and minimal equipment. After they reach the top, they happen to shoot the surroundings with the camera and one incident catches their attention. The Home Minister’s brother, who is known for carrying out illegal trade and other illicit activities, is caught on camera along with a couple of goons. However, before anyone realizes, Goutam and his friends make it back to the resort where they are staying and rest for the evening. However, Kalyan Ram starts getting dreams about a young girl, Aadya, being in trouble and going missing. While Goutam tries to find out who this girl is and why she is in grave danger, it comes to his notice that another girl, Esther (Hari Teja,) is missing as well. What happens to these two women and what the reason behind their mysterious disappearance is, is the essence of 118.

Performances:

• The lead actor, Kalyan Ram, did a fantastic job as a journalist.
• Shalini and Nivetha were very convincing and natural in their roles as Megha and Aadya respectively.
• Rajeev Kanakala deserves a special mention as he did a great job by playing the bad guy in 118.

Positives:

• High production values are a huge plus point.
• The engaging storyline is another winning point for this action drama.
• Shekar Chandra’s music and background score really elevated the feel of the movie, thus taking it to a whole new level.
• Great cinematography is an added bonus.

Negatives:

The plot line of the story is engaging to a certain extent, but in some parts, it dips, which slightly brings down the overall effect of 118.

Analysis:

118 is a unique action drama based on a different concept with which directors of the Telugu film industry have not experimented till date. With great cast and an extremely intriguing storyline, 118 is one hell of a movie to watch.
