Many years ago, two popular Indian film personalities spoke of their ambition to make a series of films on the Mahabharata: SS Rajamouli and Aamir Khan. In his latest interview, the latter has given an update.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter India, the Dangal and Lagaan actor stated that he hopes to start work on the series this year. “It will take a while because the writing process will take a few years,” the Laal Singh Chaddha actor added.
The casting and other details are not yet finalized. “We will see who we should cast based on who is appropriate for which part. I may not wield the megaphone. I don’t think you can tell the Mahabharata in one film, so it will be multiple films,” Aamir Khan said about the big-scale project. “It’s too early to say, but we may need multiple directors. We will follow the Lord of the Rings approach,” he added.
In 2018, Aamir did suggest that he would like to play Karna in the series. Seven years later, the project is a work in progress, because it is such a huge one. Aamir has read a version of the Mahabharata to understand the nuances of the epic.
