Telugu cinema loves its “item songs”. These are dance numbers designed to inject a jolt of raw sensuality and energy into the proceedings. They work because Tollywood music directors and filmmakers know how to make the best use of their crowd-pulling abilities.
In this section, TFN delves into some of the steamiest item songs in recent years.
Oo Antava Oo Oo Antava from Pushpa: The Rise took the nation by storm. Samantha Ruth Prabhu’s bold performance was an instant sensation. The hype surrounding Kissik from Pushpa 2 indicates a continuation of that trend. This time, Sreeleela filled in the shoes. Allu Arjun struck a sizzling chemistry with both heroines.
Boss Party from Waltair Veerayya kept the tradition of high energy, catchy beats and dance moves intended to get the audience moving. Like the Pushpa songs, this one too was composed by Rock Star Devi Sri Prasad. Chiranjeevi and Urvasi Rautela nailed it!
Jigelu Rani from Rangasthalam brought a rustic, sensual energy. Pooja Hegde’s uninhibited charm was matched by Ram Charan’s natural dance moves. Once again, it was Devi Sri Prasad all the way.
Bhoom Bhaddhal from Krack delivered a raw, earthy intensity. The song’s visuals, coupled with Apsara Rani’s hot presence, was enjoyable. Thaman knew what the song demanded.
Adhi Dha Surprisu from Robinhood is the latest one to woo the audience. Shot on a hot Ketika Sharma, this GV Prakash Kumar composition also features a really bold hook step, choreographed by Sekhar VJ.
Bad Boy from Saaho showcased a blend of international glamour and raw sensuality. Prabhas headlined the song, while Jacqueline Fernandez featured as a go-go dancer.
Blockbuster from Sarrainodu lived up to its name, delivering a high-octane one. Allu Arjun and Anjali shook the leg to a whistle-worthy effect.
Swathi Reddy from MAD Square has generated buzz with its youthful, modern take on the genre. Reba Monica John is going to sway the young hearts out there when the film releases on March 28th.
