It was on this day three years back that RRR, one of the greatest two-hero movies of all time, was released in theatres. 25 March 2022 turned out to be a milestone date, thanks to the international acclaim it eventually won.
When the movie was out, the characters and their motives became a talking point among cinephiles. So, it was more than a visual spectacle that SS Rajamouli had made. Jr NTR’s Komaram Bheem, a Gond tribal leader from Telangana, was fictionalized in fascinating ways. Ram Charan‘s Alluri Sitarama Raju, a revolutionary leader from Andhra Pradesh, had an arc of his own.

The film, by grossing something like Rs 1450 Cr worldwide, became one of the greatest commercial hits in the history of Indian cinema. The epic historical action drama film, whose music is by MM Keeravani, also featured gripping performances by Ray Stevenson (as Governor Scott Buxton), Ajay Devgn, Alia Bhatt, and others.

The international acclaim garnered by the movie from critics is phenomenal. On Rotten Tomatoes, it holds a 96% positive rating based on 104 reviews, with an average score of 8.3/10. Metacritic assigned the film a score of 83 out of 100, based on 17 critics.
Many Hollywood critics described the action scenes as “bombastic,” “over-the-top,” “giddy,” and “exhilarating.” They noted that the film embraces a sense of hyperbole and pushes the boundaries of possibility in its action choreography. RRR’s Netflix release made it an international favourite.
