Mazaka has hit the screens on the auspicious occasion of Maha Shiva Ratri. Its early premieres were held in the Telugu States on Tuesday night. How is the movie? What is it all about? Let’s find out.
Story:
Krishna (Sundeep Kishan) and his father Ramana (Rao Ramesh) are single. When Ramana attempts to find a match for his son, he finds potential matches declining to enter into an alliance because there is no woman in their family. Around this time, Krishna falls in love with Meera (Ritu Varma), his collegemate. By a quirky coincidence, Ramana falls in love with Yashoda (Anshu), a middle-aged woman who wants to fly out of the country and settle down in the US. But following an unexpected encounter with a sadistic businessman named Bhargav Varma (Murali Sharma), the Krishna-Ramana duo realize that they are facing a strange problem in their love lives.
Analysis:
Sundeep Kishan, after playing serious roles in films like Michael and relatively semi-serious parts in A1 Express and Ooru Peru Bhairavakona, gets prankish here. Through and through, he is quite playful in an entertaining role. He gets to break the bones in an episode or two, but for the most part, all he does is tickle the funny bone. Rao Ramesh gets to play one of the best-written roles in his career. Not many artists get to play an annoyed father and a cutesy middle-aged lover boy. Ritu Varma and Anshu are not pushovers. Their characters have a strong place in the story.
Director Trinadha Rao Nakkina lets his characters behave whimsically where required. Murali Sharma plays a major role whose trajectory is not routine. Ajay plays a cop who wants to be a part-time novelist. Srinivas Reddy is that typical PA to a crazy person. Hyper Aadi, Supreeth, and Raghu Babu are also seen in different roles. Chammak Chandra has a cameo.
Prasanna Kumar Bezawada’s story and screenplay know where to infuse emotional doses. His writing provides the required highs at regular intervals. The supari killer character who irritates Murali Sharma’s character feels like one of those Anil Ravipudi characters.
Leon James is even with the mood of the film. Sommasilli Pothunnave is short-lived but enjoyable. Pagili outdoes the Bachelors Anthem and Baby Ma. Nizar Shafi’s cinematography is good.
Highlights:
1. Not two but four lead characters sharing two love stories.
2. The father-son track.
3. The heart-touching climax.
4. Fun, fun all the way.
5. Hasya Movies and AK Entertainments ensure the right production values.
Verdict:
Mazaka is your consummate family entertainer where its four lead characters get equal importance in the story. There is comedy, there is foot-tapping music, there is a flashback, there is sentiment. Watch it!
