J. Jayalalithaa, the former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, was a great actress in Tamil and Telugu, with more than 60 odd movies in Telugu. A biopic about her is currently being shot under A.L. Vijay’s direction. The movie, titled Thalaivi, has Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut playing the lead role.
Jayalalithaa interacted with many leaders in her political life, but her relationship with the late N.T. Rama Rao was unique. She obliged NTR many times and was the chief guest at a ceremony organised for the distribution of Nandi Awards during the late 1990s. She also saw NTR on par with her mentor, M.G. Ramachandran.
Team Thalaivi now approached Junior NTR to don a guest role in the biopic as NTR. Junior NTR’s reluctance to play his inimitable grandfather is well known. Junior NTR also rejected Nag Ashwin’s offer to play NTR’s role in Mahanati, the biopic about the legendary Savitri.
We will have to wait and see whether Team Thalaivi emerges trumps in roping in Junior NTR.
