Thotakura Somaraju, alias Raj, is a veteran Telugu film music composer and director who is a part of the popular duo Raj- Koti. He has worked prominently in the Telugu film industry and was popular for his hit songs in the 1980s and 1990s. The music composer has crossed the age of 68. Unfortunately, the industry lost him yesterday. He passed away yesterday, which was on Sunday, May 21st.
The reason for his demise was a cardiac arrest due to the shock he received as he fell down in the bathroom. This loss in the Telugu film industry has saddened everyone. His family members rushed him to the hospital soon after he fell, but he was no more. Raj is survived by his wife and their three daughters, Deepthi, Divya, and Swetha. Raj’s last rites will take place in Hyderabad on Monday (today).

Raj is the son of the popular music composer/ director Thotakura Venkataraju. The duo Raj and Koti were called brothers in the industry. They started their journey with Pralaya Garjana (1982) and composed music for over 100 films together until 1995. Raj has also composed music as a solo music director for a few films. The duo Raj-Koti had won Nandi Award for Best Music Director for their film Hello Brother in 1994.
