In a tribute to the legendary Telugu cinema icon Akkineni Nageswara Rao (ANR), Annapurna Studios, in collaboration with the Film Heritage Foundation and PVR Inox, is set to re-release 10 of ANR’s classic films. This special initiative, part of the #ANR100 centenary celebrations, honors ANR’s timeless contributions to cinema and allows audiences to experience his iconic works on the big screen once again.
ANR is one of four recipients of the Dada Saheb Phalke Award, alongside Raj Kapoor, Mohd Rafi, and Tapan Sinha, who would have turned 100 this year. Remarkably, ANR’s foresight ensured the preservation of his films for future generations. He personally stored the negatives and prints of his movies at his own expense through the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC), believing that cinema should be preserved forever. In contrast, the films of other cinematic legends, such as Dilip Kumar and Raj Kapoor, were lost due to the absence of preserved prints and negatives.
To commemorate ANR’s centenary, seven of his classic films will be screened for free in select theatres across Vizag, Vizianagaram, Vijayawada, Guntur, Bhimavaram, and Hyderabad from September 20th to 22nd. These films include Devadasu, Maya Bazar, Bharya Bharthalu, Sudigundaalu, Docto
The screenings will take place at popular theatres such as Sri Rama, Saptagiri, Venkata Swarna, Keerthana, NVR Velrams, Mahalakshmi, and Shanti. This initiative offers a unique opportunity for both old and new fans to witness ANR’s classic performances, helping to keep his cinematic legacy alive for future generations.
Tickets for these iconic films are now available for booking in major cities, and free show tickets will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis at participating theatres. This is a rare chance to relive these cinematic masterpieces and celebrate the centenary of one of Telugu cinema’s greatest stars.
