Akkada Ammayi Ikkada Abbayi was released in theatres today. Mythri Movie Makers has released the movie in theatres. How is the movie? What should you expect from it? Let’s find out in this review.
Story:
Krishna (Pradeep Machiraju) is a Hyderabad-based a civil engineer who accidentally ends up in a Rayalaseema village that follows a strange custom: Outsider men should have nothing to do with them. Krishna’s fate is such that he not only has to accomplish an infrastructure project there but also ensure something extraordinary if he wants to marry the village’s dream girl, Raja (Deepika Pilli). The head of the village entrusts him with a rare mission that takes a toll on him. What is it and how does Krishna materialize it? That’s what the second half is all about.
Analysis:
Debutant directors Nitin and Bharath surprise the audience with this breezy treat. The very premise is quirky and the brand of comedy is even quirkier. The film doesn’t take itself too seriously.
Pradeep Machiraju excels in a role that requires him to come of age. ‘Never help anybody’ is his starting point. While why he reached that state of mind is comical, the transformation is not preachy. Deepika Pilli has a solid career ahead; she looks like the perfect Telugu ammayi who doesn’t over-emote. Her screen presence in songs Modhati Chinuku and Le Le Le Le proves that she is in for the long haul.
At least two comedians take the film to the next level: Satya and Getup Srinu. The short episode where Pradeep and Satya dance to popular TV serial songs is enjoyable.
The storytelling is self-assured. Everyone swoons over Raja, a character that keeps teasing the audience until one hour into the movie. And then the character suddenly flips with a funny backstory involving her and Get-Up Srinu. The first half is nearly 80 minutes long. Such is the conviction of the directors.
Satya enlivens most of the scenes he is a part of. His repartees pointing out the quirks of the villagers are funny. His reactions to googlies thrown at him by strangers are rib-tickling. A good comedian is a pro at making double-meaning words look acceptable; trust Satya to normalize terms like ‘Middle Wicket’. The ‘pelli choopulu’ episode involving other comedians is hilarious, involving all the primary comedy artists and Brahmaji (as marriage broker Prabhakar). The entry of the characters played by Vennela Kishore offers further scope for comedy. Brahmanandam has a cameo.
The film is also a commentary on the mindset of stubborn people in our society. Villagers in the movie think nothing about telling lies to get married, imposing arbitrary restrictions on their own mobility, and lifting those restrictions when it is convenient.
Muralidhar Goud, GM Sundar, Rohini, and Jhansi have different roles. Radhan’s music is a big plus. MN Bal Reddy’s cinematography is good. The story and dialogues are written by Sandeep Bolla.
Verdict:
Akkada Ammayi Ikkada Abbayi is a pleasant surprise, offering a refreshing blend of comedy and quirky storytelling. Pradeep Machiraju delivers a solid performance, supported by a stellar comedic cast, especially Satya and Getup Srinu.
