Sarangapani Jathakam, the upcoming Friday release, is about how far we can go to believe in astrological predictions. Narrated from the perspective of a horoscope-obsessed protagonist, it conveys a subtle message. Interestingly, three main talents behind the movie have shared astrology-related stories from their lives.
Actor Priyadarshi reveled that he would have never become an actor had he believed in a negative prediction about his acting dreams by an astrologer his mother had consulted. The astrologer ruled out Priyadarshi’s success as an actor. About a decade later, here is Priyadarshi, going strong film after film. He has been blessed with content films like Balagam, Mallesham, Court and comedy entertainers like Jathi Ratnalu and Brochevarevaru Ra.
Producer Sivalenka Krishna Prasad is on record stating that he stopped making movies for many years following an astrologer’s advice. “The same astrologer asked me to recommence my career as a producer from 2015. I produced Nani’s Gentleman, Sammohanam, Yashoda and am now ready with Sarangapani Jathakam,” he added recently.
Director Mohanakrishna Indraganti could have averted a road accident had he listened to an astrologer who had predicted that he could potentially meet with an accident in 2016 if he didn’t take the services of a chauffer. While this experience has made Indraganti not dismiss astrology outright, he is not a strong votary of the knowledge system.
Moving away from the Sarangapani Jathakam team, it would be interesting to recount other instances here.
Producer C Aswini Dutt once said that he stopped making movies after Shakti because of an astrologer’s caution against pursuing his production endeavours. For years, Vyjayanthi Movies was on a sabbatical. Dutt’s daughters made a comeback with Yevade Subrahmanyam in 2015. More recently, Dutt’s Kalki 2898 AD became a big hit.
Actress Kangana Ranaut, long before she became an actress, dismissed her small-town astrologer when he predicted that she will have an acting career.
Actor Suriya’s father, Sivakumar, once said that he dismissed an astrologer’s prediction that his son would become an actor one day. Suriya was introvertive and never gave any indication that acting was his cup of tea. Eventually, he became a noted star hero.
