Baasha, which has music by Deva, features Nagma and Raghuvaran in prominent roles. Janagaraj, Devan, Shashi Kumar, Vijayakumar, Anandaraj, Charan Raj, Kitty, Sathyapriya, Shenbaga and Yuvarani played supporting roles.
Baasha was originally released in theatres on January 12, 1995. Kamal Haasan’s Sathi Leelavathi was its chief competitor at the box office during the Pongal season. Baasha became a sensational hit and remains the greatest symbol of Rajini’s superstardom. Not just the Tamil audience, the audience from other southern Indian states, too, were in awe of the film’s storyline, background music and, of course, Rajini’s inimitable swag for years. Tamil commercial cinema’s appeal increased in then-united Andhra Pradesh, thanks to Baasha.
