Veteran actress Tulasi announces retirement from acting

Veteran actress Tulasi, often credited as Tulasi Shivamani, has had an illustrious and enduring career in South Indian cinema, beginning remarkably early as a child artiste in the Telugu film industry. The news is that the renowned artist has announced her exit from the film industry. She will be dedicating herself to spiritual pursuits as a devotee of Shirdi Sai Baba. "Happy retirement! Here is to enjoying every minute of your newfound freedom and adventures," she wrote. "Trust your intuition. You don t need to explain or justify your feelings to anyone, just trust your own inner guidance; it knows best," she further added. After Sankarabharanam catapulted her to fame in 1980, she went on to act in films for the next four decades. As an actress and a supporting artist, she acted in 300 films in Telugu, Kannada, Tamil, Malayalam, and Bhojpuri languages. Tulasi won two Nandi Awards (both as a child artiste) and one Filmfare Award. Kannada director Sivamani is her husband. In an interview, Tulasi credited her acting talent to three filmmaker-mentors: K Viswanath, Dasari Narayana Rao, and Bapu-Ramana duo. "I worked with directors who were meticulous and clear-cut about what they wanted from actors," she added.
