Velpari: Here is what director Shankar has said about his dream project

Director Shankar has made some statements about his upcoming film project, Velpari , which is an adaptation of the historical novel Veera Yuga Nayagan Vel Paari by Su Venkatesan. The Game Changer director has repeatedly stated that Velpari is his new dream project, succeeding his previous one, Enthiran. He envisions Velpari as a monumental project on a global scale, comparable to international productions like Game of Thrones or Avatar in terms of costume, art, production value, and the use of technology . He believes it has the potential to become the pride of Tamil and Indian cinema and achieve global recognition. Shankar plans to adapt the novel into a three-part film franchise. He holds the copyright to the novel and has publicly warned other filmmakers against unauthorized use or ripping off scenes from Veera Yuga Nayagan Vel Paari in movies, web series, or any other medium, threatening legal action for copyright infringement. He expressed being disturbed by such instances in recent movie trailers. Shankar discovered and deeply admired the novel during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown, subsequently working on its screenplay. Superstar Rajinikanth , who attended an event celebrating the sale of one lakh copies of the Velpari novel, expressed his appreciation for Shankar's impact on Tamil cinema and anticipated the success of the Velpari film. He also reflected on the power of literature and revealed that the author, Su Venkatesan, personally invited him and proudly shared that Velpari had outsold Ponniyin Selvan.
