Sukriti Veni Bandreddi , the child artist of Gandhi Tatha Chettu , has won a National Award in the Best Child Artist category. The 71st National Film Awards were announced today. Sukriti is the daughter of star director Sukumar and Tabitha Sukumar. Gandhi Tatha Chettu, brought out by Mythri Movie Makers, Sukumar Writings and Gopi Talkies, was a crowd-funded, indie film that was materialized through Cinema Stock Exchange. Made on a budget of Rs 85 lakhs, the message-laden film was released earlier this year but it was censored in 2023. What is the film about? Gandhi (Sukriti Veni Bandreddi), a school-going pre-teen, is fond of her grandfather Raghuramaiah (Anand Chakrapani), an idealistic Gandhian who opposes the industrial takeover of farmlands in the village. When the grandfather breathes his last, Gandhi takes it upon herself to save the village from falling prey to the machinations of a cunning capitalist, played by Rag Mayur. The film is written and directed by Padmavathi Malladi. Sukriti's father, director Sukumar, initially doubted her acting range but was pleasantly surprised by her performance in Gandhi Tatha Chettu , stating she had performed so well. Mahesh Babu also praised her stellar debut performance and was incredibly proud to see her deliver a powerful performance. She also received praises from Global Star Ram Charan and others.
