Ace filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma has revealed that the next installment of his political crime franchise Sarkar is officially in the works. The director confirmed that Sarkar 4 will begin shooting soon, creating excitement among fans of the popular film series.
Varma shared the update while speaking at the Red Lorry Film Festival, where he attended a special screening of his cult classic Shiva. During the interaction, the filmmaker opened up about his upcoming projects and reflected on his filmmaking journey over the years.
The Sarkar franchise, which began in 2005 with Amitabh Bachchan in the lead role, became widely popular for its intense political drama and powerful storytelling. The series continued with Sarkar Raj in 2008 and Sarkar 3 in 2017, and the announcement of a fourth installment has now generated renewed interest in the franchise.
Apart from Sarkar 4, Varma also revealed that he is working on another project titled Syndicate. Speaking about the film, the director remarked that the project is very important to him and jokingly said it would “wash away all my sins.”
During the session, Varma also spoke about his filmmaking approach. Reflecting on his creative process, he mentioned that he rarely relied on a fully bound script in the early days of his career and believes that excessive dependence on a fixed script can sometimes limit the emotional evolution of a film during production.
The filmmaker further discussed his cinematic influences, noting that legendary director Steven Spielberg had a strong impact on his visual storytelling style. He also expressed admiration for contemporary filmmakers and said he enjoyed watching Dhurandhar, while praising Aditya Dhar as one of the promising directors of the current generation.
With Sarkar 4 now officially on the horizon and another ambitious project in the pipeline, Ram Gopal Varma appears ready to return with fresh stories that could once again spark conversations among cinema lovers.
