Pushpa 2 Wins Two National Film Awards

Pushpa 2 Wins Two National Film Awards

Published: 2026-09-23

Pushpa 2: The Rule has added two National Awards to its achievements, with the Sukumar-directed film receiving recognition in both writing and costume design. Sukumar won the award for Best Screenplay (Original), while Deepali Noor and Sheetal Sharma were honoured with the award for Best Costume Design.

The Best Screenplay award recognises Sukumar's writing for the sequel, which continued the story of Pushpa Raj while expanding the world and conflicts established in Pushpa: The Rise. The film takes its central character into a larger power struggle, while also exploring his relationships, ambitions and the challenges that come with his growing influence.

Sukumar's screenplay had to balance the film's large-scale commercial elements with the character-driven portions of Pushpa's journey. The recognition at the National Awards acknowledges the writing work behind the film.

The film's second honour came in the technical category, with Deepali Noor and Sheetal Sharma winning Best Costume Design. Costumes are an important part of Pushpa 2, helping establish the personalities and changing circumstances of its characters. From Pushpa's distinctive appearance to the film's many elaborate sequences, the costume department played a major role in creating its visual identity.

The two awards therefore recognise two different sides of Pushpa 2: Sukumar's work in shaping the story and characters, and the detailed costume work that helped bring that world to the screen.

Following Allu Arjun's Best Actor win for Pushpa: The Rise at the 69th National Film Awards, the franchise has once again received recognition at the National Film Awards, this time for its screenplay and costume design.
