Paradha, the kind of feminist movie women will definitely like

Paradha , starring Anupama Parameshwaran at the centre of its universe, had its paid premieres on Wednesday evening. The film's full-fledged release happens this Friday. What is the film about? In a village named Padathi, women are not supposed to reveal their faces to any man besides their husband, dad, or sibling. If they reveal their face even accidentally, they will have to commit suicide to appease the local Goddess. Subba Lakshmi (Anupama Parameswaran) is about to get married to Rajesh (Rag Mayur). On the day of her engagement, shockingly, a magazine with the cover photo of Subba Lakshmi's fully revealed face lands in their home. The engagement gets cancelled. As per the tradition in the village, Subba Lakshmi should commit suicide so that no new-born child will die. This is when she, her family friend Ratna (Sangitha) and a civil engineer named Amisha (Darshana) go on a journey to know the mystery behind the magazine cover. Paradha might be dubbed a feminist film because it is. It bats for women's agency and autonomy in matters that concern their full-blown personality development. It boldly questions blind belief and oppression in the name of fear. The performances by Anupama , Sangitha and Darshana Rajendran are neat. Director Praveen Kandregula ensures that the shot composition, the emotional quotient, and the trajectory of the story remain tight throughout. There are no forced elements, and the evolution in the heroine's character happens organically. This is the kind of film women will like more!
