Nani’s 5 Iconic Characters Before The Paradise

Published: 2026-09-23

Nani has built a special place for himself in Telugu cinema by choosing characters that feel different from one film to another. From innocent and relatable youngsters to emotionally intense men and larger-than-life protagonists, the actor has repeatedly changed his approach according to the character. As The Paradise brings Jadal to the big screen, here is a look at five memorable characters from Nani’s journey.

Arjun – Jersey

Arjun remains one of Nani’s most emotionally memorable characters. A former cricketer who gets another chance to pursue the dream he left behind, Arjun’s story is driven by ambition, fatherhood and the need to prove something to himself. Nani kept the performance grounded, allowing the character’s emotions to carry the film.

Shyam Singha Roy – Shyam Singha Roy

With Shyam Singha Roy, Nani took on two contrasting personalities. The present-day Vasu and the revolutionary Shyam Singha Roy required completely different performances, and the period portions allowed Nani to explore a more commanding screen presence. Shyam’s conviction and intensity made the character stand apart in his filmography.

Mahesh Babu – Pilla Zamindar

Mahesh Babu from Pilla Zamindar belongs to a completely different phase of Nani’s career. The character begins as a carefree and arrogant young man who is forced to understand responsibility and the value of relationships. The humour, innocence and eventual transformation made Mahesh Babu one of Nani’s most entertaining roles.

Dharani – Dasara

Dharani marked a major shift in Nani’s image. Set against the backdrop of the Telangana coal belt, the character was rough, impulsive and deeply emotional. Nani completely embraced the body language and dialect required for the role. The performance also marked his first collaboration with director Srikanth Odela, making their reunion in The Paradise particularly interesting.

Jadal – The Paradise

Now comes Jadal. Unlike the characters above, very little has been revealed about everything that awaits the audience in his journey. Set in 1980s Secunderabad, Jadal belongs to a marginalised community and finds himself caught in a larger struggle for identity, dignity and recognition.

What makes Jadal especially interesting is the transformation visible even before the film’s release. From the distinctive hairstyle and rugged appearance to the intensity in the promotional material, Nani appears to have approached the character from a completely different space.

These five characters show how Nani has moved across different genres and emotional spaces throughout his career. With Jadal, the actor appears ready to add another distinct character to that journey.
