The Telugu Film Producers Council has welcomed the revival of the Nandi Film Awards for the years 2017 to 2024, expressing gratitude to the Andhra Pradesh government and officials involved in bringing back the long-pending state film honours.
In a press note dated October 3, the council thanked Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan, Cinematography Minister K. Durgesh, MLA and actor Nandamuri Balakrishna, AP State Film, Television and Theatre Development Corporation Chairman P. Bharat Bhushan and Managing Director K.S. Viswanathan for supporting the revival of the awards.
The council also welcomed the government’s consideration of restoring the N.T.R. National Film Award for the 2017-2024 period. According to the producers council, the request submitted to the APFDC on September 24 included the revival of the Nandi Awards in three categories: Golden Nandi, Silver Nandi and Bronze Nandi.
The Nandi Awards hold a special place in Telugu cinema, with the state honours having been established in 1964. The AP State Film, Television and Theatre Development Corporation describes the Nandi Awards as recognition for the contributions of Telugu film artists and technicians.
The revival comes after several years without regular Nandi Film Award ceremonies. The AP government had already announced plans to clear the pending awards and conduct ceremonies by December 2026, with the 2017-2024 period included in the new schedule.
The Telugu Film Producers Council has now urged the Andhra Pradesh government to continue honouring artists and technicians from the Telugu film industry regularly through the Nandi Awards.
With the revival process underway, further details regarding the selection process, award categories and year-wise honours are expected as the government moves ahead with the programme.
