Kannappa: A Story Beyond Religion, Says Manchu Vishnu
Published: 2025-06-17
Kannappa , Manchu Vishnu's upcoming movie, may be about a Hindu devotee, but the film's essence transcends religions. Speaking about his magnum opus, Vishnu stated that Kannappa's spirit can't be given a religious marker. When I screened the movie to my wife's father, he was moved to tears. He told me he had cried only once before - when his father passed away. What this goes to show is that the movie Kannappa has no religious identity, Vishnu said. The movie was screened for a few Hindu Pundits, who gave it a ringing endorsement. I held a private screening for the main Archaka of the Sri Kalahasthi Temple, the Principal of a local Sanksrit college, and the Chairman of the Devasthanam in the town. The Archaka told me not to alter a single dialogue. He described my movie as the representation of true Bhakti. Besides, Kona Venkat and BVS Ravi also watched. The version I screened for them was a rough cut without VFX, Vishnu said. Kannappa features Prabhas in an important role. The film is slated to be released in theatres on June 27th .
