Historic collaboration confirmed: Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan to reunite

A new movie featuring Superstar Rajinikanth and Ulaganayagan Kamal Haasan has been confirmed. Kamal Haasan officially announced the collaboration on September 7, 2025, at the SIIMA Awards in Dubai. This will be the first time the two superstars have shared the screen in 46 years, since their 1979 film Alavuddinum Athbutha Vilakkum). The film will be directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj , who has recently worked with both actors individually in Coolie (Rajinikanth) and Vikram (Kamal Haasan). The project is expected to be a major event in Indian cinema. Jailer 2, a sequel to his 2023 blockbuster Jailer, is Rajini's upcoming solo release. He will reprise his role as Muthuvel Pandian. It will be directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, who also helmed the first installment. Anirudh Ravichander is its director. Kamal was recently seen in Thug Life , directed by Mani Ratnam. The film was an action thriller and also starred Silambarasan and Trisha Krishnan. Kamal is slated to work with Lokesh on a solo-hero movie. Vikram 2 is a sequel to the 2022 action thriller Vikram will be taken up some day.
