Delhi High Court Protects Nagarjuna's Likeness Against AI Deepfakes and Misuse

The case in which Akkineni Nagarjuna secured a victory related to his personality rights was before the Delhi High Court . The court agreed to protect his personality and publicity rights against the unauthorized use of his name, image, and voice. His plea highlighted three main categories of misuse: Pornographic content falsely attributed to him; Unauthorised merchandising using his name image; AI-generated material misusing his likeness, including videos circulated online. The Delhi High Court indicated it would pass an order to direct the take-down of the specific infringing links (URLs) he had flagged. This victory is part of a growing trend where Indian celebrities are seeking legal protection against the misuse of their identity, particularly with the rise of AI and deepfake technology. Reacting to the verdict, Nagarjuna wrote, Grateful to the Hon ble Delhi High Court for protecting my personality rights in today s digital age.
