Committee Kurrollu Wins Two National Film Awards

Published: 2026-09-23

Committee Kurrollu has emerged as one of the Telugu winners at the 72nd National Film Awards, receiving two honours. The film was named Best Telugu Film, while Pasupaleti Ravi Kumar won the Best Make-up award for his work on the film. The Best Telugu Film honour is credited to producer Niharika Konidela's Pink Elephant Pictures and Shree Radha Damodara Studios, along with director Yadhu Vamsee.

Directed by Yadhu Vamsee, Committee Kurrollu marked his directorial debut and brought together a young ensemble for a story rooted in the culture, friendships and conflicts of rural Andhra Pradesh. The film's setting and characters were central to its identity, and the National Award recognises the film's overall achievement as a Telugu feature.

The second honour came for Pasupaleti Ravi Kumar, who won Best Make-up. The make-up work was an important part of creating the film's grounded characterisation and maintaining visual continuity across the different stages of the characters' lives. Rather than being an overtly stylised film, Committee Kurrollu needed its characters to feel natural within its rural world, making the make-up work an important part of the film's visual authenticity.

The National Award moment was also special for Niharika Konidela, with her parents Nagababu and Padmaja being present to share the occasion with her. The achievement carries an added family significance as Nagababu had previously produced Rudraveena, which won three National Awards decades ago. Niharika had earlier spoken about how Committee Kurrollu made her feel that she had earned her own place within the family's cinematic legacy.

For Yadhu Vamsee, the recognition comes with his debut feature, while for Niharika it marks an important milestone as a producer. With the Best Telugu Film and Best Make-up honours, Committee Kurrollu has received recognition for both its overall filmmaking and the technical craft that helped create its world.
