Champion, released in theatres on Thursday, grossed Rs 6.91 Cr in two days. Sharing the news, Swapna Cinema wrote, "Thank you all for filling cinemas with love. People’s CHAMPION storms to 6.91 CRORE+ worldwide gross in 2 DAYS. Witness the historic journey with your family in cinemas near you."
Speaking at an event after the movie's release, producer Swapna Dutt said that there is immense satisfaction in doing rare subjects that are uphill choices. "Champion is the kind of subject that allows every artist to do something. Director Pradeep Advaitham narrated the story four years ago, during the making of Sita Ramam. Roshan was supposed to do some other film under our banner. He was still too young. He has been extremely patient. When we were busy with Kalki 2898 AD, we asked him to do some other film in the meanwhile. But he wanted to focus only on Champion. Mickey J Meyer's music has contributed to these openings," Swapna Dutt said.
Director Pradeep justified the pacing. "This is not a one-hero movie. From the village Bhairanpally to so many others, everyone is like a hero. The climax was shot over 15 days and it involved 200 artists. The village witnessed extreme violence. To do justice to the real incident, we had to show it on a big scale with lots of detailing," he added.
