The Tamil film industry is reeling from the shocking loss of beloved comedian and actor Robo Shankar, who passed away on Thursday evening at the age of 46 due to a massive gastrointestinal bleed and multiorgan dysfunction. Admitted to GEM Hospital in Chennai on September 16 after collapsing on the set of one of his upcoming films, Shankar fought valiantly in the ICU but succumbed at 9:05 PM. Veteran actor Kamal Haasan , whom Shankar idolized and often sought blessings from, led the condolences with a poignant Tamil poem on X. Addressing Shankar as his younger brother, Haasan wrote: Robo Shankar. Robo is just a pseudonym. In my dictionary, you are a human. You're my younger brother. Will you just leave me and go? Your job is done, you left. My job remains unfinished. You left tomorrow for us. Therefore, tomorrow is ours. Actor Simran Bagga posted a touching note: Deeply saddened by the passing of Robo Shankar. A talent that brought smiles to millions. You will be missed, she wrote. Actor Karthi , reflecting on Shankar's health struggles, wrote: It aches to see how destructive choices over time can erode health. A great talent gone too soon. My deepest condolences to his family and fans. Actress Varalakshmi Sarathkumar , who had spoken to Shankar just days earlier, shared her disbelief: Just too sudden .. I just can t believe it.. prayers to the family.. he made so many people laugh..may he rest in peace.. Actress Radikaa Sarathkumar echoed this, posting: Always keeps everyone happy with his humour and works very hard to keep giving his best. Such a great great loss. My prayers to the family and friends to be strong. RIP. Dhanush reportedly visited the family to offer personal condolences, though he has yet to post publicly. Shankar's final rites are scheduled for today, September 19, at a Chennai crematorium, expected to draw industry colleagues, fans, and admirers.
