Celebrating eight years of Arjun Reddy: Film that launched two blockbuster journeys

Arjun Reddy, the iconic romantic drama in which Vijay Deverakonda starred as an alcoholic surgeon, turns eight today. It was released in theatres on 25 August 2017 . Remembering the release, director Sandeep Reddy Vanga shared a video clip of himself chilling out with Vijay on the sets of the film. Some interesting facts about the journey of the trend-setting film have emerged in recent years. The story of Arjun Reddy was first pitched to Manchu Manoj , who couldn't do it due to personal reasons. It was later pitched to Sharwanand , who too couldn't do it. Eventually, the story reached Vijay Deverakonda rather accidentally. Vijay watched specific movies to get into the dark mood of his character. He did not have any cinematic references but watched films like The Godfather (1972), Scarface (1983) and Goodfellas (1990) to remain in an alpha male zone, a Wikipedia entry says. Arjun Reddy's success made Vijay and Sandeep new stars of Telugu cinema. The former went on to do notable films like Geetha Govindam (a bigger blockbuster) and Kingdom , a gangster action drama. Sandeep struck gold by remaking Arjun Reddy as Kabir Singh in Hindi. Animal , his subsequent film, stunned the box office. Prabhas' Spirit is his next biggie. He has permanently ensconced himself as a pan-Indian filmmaker with the potential to find an international audience in the future.
