BO 2025: Indian films that are unique success stories

While the year 2025 hasn't produced a single Rs 1,000 crore blockbuster yet, a large number of mid-range films have performed exceptionally well, driving overall box office growth. The trend of smaller, content-driven films becoming massive hits is particularly notable. Chhaava : Vicky Kaushal's Hindi-language historical action film Chhaava has been the highest-grossing film of the year so far, leading the charts with a worldwide gross of over Rs 800 crore. Saiyaara (Hindi): A romantic drama starring newcomers, Saiyaara became a stunning success, surpassing the lifetime collections of even major star-driven films. Tourist Family (Tamil): Made on a modest budget, it became the most profitable Indian film of the year, earning a profit of over 1200 on its production cost. Thudarum : This Malayalam film also delivered an impressive profit margin of around 720 , showcasing the strong performance of regional cinema. It stars Mohanlal in the lead. L2: Empuraan : The Malayalam film also performed very well, showcasing the strength of established franchises in South Indian cinema. The surprise success of Mahavatar Narsimha , a mythological animated film, has demonstrated a new potential for the genre in India. The film's strong word-of-mouth and resonance with family audiences, particularly through its Hindi-dubbed version, show that there is a market for quality animated content beyond the typical big-budget films. In the coming months, the BO performance of films like Coolie, War 2, They Call Him OG, Akhanda 2, and The Raja Saab is expected to shine forth.
