Birthday Special: Remembering Sridevi's illustrious career as a child artist

A true prodigy, Sridevi began her acting career at the tender age of four. Her debut was in the 1967 Tamil film Kandhan Karunai, where she was cast as a young Lord Murugan. This marked the start of a prolific filmography as a child artist across four languages: Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada. She was already a seasoned actor by the time she was a teenager. In fact, she won the Kerala State Film Award for Best Child Artist for her role in the 1971 Malayalam film Poombatta. A lesser-known fact is that her Hindi film debut was in the 1972 movie Rani Mera Naam, but her most famous early Hindi role came later as the younger sister of the protagonist in the 1975 film Julie. By the age of 13, she had already transitioned to lead roles, making her debut as a heroine in the 1976 Tamil film Moondru Mudichu. She was one of the very few artists to have acted with Jayalalithaa , the future CM of Tamil Nadu, in three films. She acted in Thirumangalyam, Kandan Karunai and Adi Parashakti. This early start and extensive experience as a child artist laid the foundation for her incredible journey to becoming one of Indian cinema's biggest superstars.
