M Saravanan (also known as AVM Saravanan) is no more. The iconic Tamil film personality was a veteran Tamil cinema producer and owner of AVM Studios.
He carried forward the pioneering legacy of his father, A. V. Meiyappan, who founded AVM Productions in 1945. Saravanan was involved in filmmaking since the late 1950s and produced several notable hits. He passed away earlier today at the age of 86 in Chennai due to age-related ailments. He is survived by his son, producer M. S. Guhan, and granddaughters Aruna Guhan and Aparna Guhan.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin reached his residence to pay his respects. Several industry persons and family friends gathered there to bid their farewell.
Kollywood is deeply saddened by the loss of the legendary producer AVM Studios. Many in their tributes said that his legacy and kindness will live on. "AVM Studios, founded by A.V. Meyyappa Chettiar, is to southern cinema what Rajshri is to the north. M. Saravanan led his family's tradition of making good, clean family dramas on various screens that over the decades reflected continuity and change in Modern India," wrote journalist Madhavan Narayanan.
