Arun Govil As King Dasharatha: First Look From Ramayana Released

Published: 2026-10-08

The makers of Ramayana have unveiled the first look of Arun Govil as King Dasharatha, giving audiences a glimpse of the veteran actor in a completely different role within the epic. The new poster introduces him as the King of Ayodhya and adds another interesting layer to Nitesh Tiwari’s ambitious two-part adaptation.

Arun Govil is best known for playing Lord Ram in the iconic 1987 television series Ramayan, a role that left a lasting impression on generations of viewers. His return to the world of Ramayana as Dasharatha, Lord Ram’s father, has therefore become one of the notable casting choices in the upcoming film.

The first-look poster presents Govil in the royal avatar of Dasharatha, reflecting the character’s position as the ruler of Ayodhya. While the film features a new generation of actors in its central roles, Govil’s association with the epic gives his casting an added significance.

Ramayana stars Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana, Sunny Deol as Hanuman and Ravi Dubey as Lakshman. The film is being directed by Nitesh Tiwari and is being made as a two-part epic.

The first part of Ramayana is scheduled to release worldwide on November 5, 2026, with the second part planned for Diwali 2027. The film will be released across multiple Indian languages, including Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam, and will also have an IMAX release.

With Arun Govil now stepping into the role of Dasharatha, the new Ramayana brings together a fresh cast while also retaining a familiar face strongly associated with the epic. His first look has consequently added another point of curiosity as the film moves closer to its theatrical release.
