AR Murugadoss talks of language barrier while mounting Hindi movies

Film director A.R. Murugadoss has spoken about his challenges working on Hindi films. He stated that he feels handicapped when directing Hindi films due to his limited understanding of the language. Murugadoss explained that working in his mother tongue, Tamil, is his strength because he understands what resonates with the audience. He suggested that Gen Z language in Tamil is something he is familiar with, not that of the Hindi audience. He finds Telugu films somewhat manageable, but with Hindi, he relies on translations from Tamil to English and then to Hindi. As a result, he fails to understand the nuances of the scenes he is filming. AR Murugadoss has directed a number of Hindi films, including remakes of his own successful Tamil ventures. His Hindi directorial debut was in 2008 with Ghajini , a remake of his 2005 Tamil film of the same name. He followed this with Holiday: A Soldier Is Never Off Duty in 2014, which was a remake of his 2012 Tamil hit Thuppakki . In 2016, he directed Akira, a Hindi remake of the 2011 Tamil film Mouna Guru. His most recent Hindi directorial is Sikandar , which was released on March 30, 2025. Looking ahead, AR Murugadoss has an upcoming film titled Madharaasi , a Tamil movie that will also be released in Hindi as Dil Madharaasi, scheduled for September 5, 2025.
