Amaran Takes Home Three National Honours

Published: 2026-09-23

Sivakarthikeyan and Sai Pallavi starrer Amaran has secured three major honours at the 72nd National Film Awards. The film won Best Direction for Rajkumar Periasamy, Best Music Direction for G.V. Prakash Kumar, and Best Editing for R Kalaivanan.

Directed by Rajkumar Periasamy, Amaran is based on the life of Major Mukund Varadarajan and follows his journey as an Indian Army officer, while also exploring his relationship with his wife Indhu Rebecca Varghese. The film balances its military setting with the personal story at its centre.

The Best Direction award recognises Rajkumar Periasamy's work in bringing together the film's two sides. The story moves between Mukund's personal life, his relationship with Indhu and his journey in the Army, requiring the director to maintain an emotional connection while handling the film's action and military portions.

The film also won Best Music Direction for G.V. Prakash Kumar. Music plays an important role throughout Amaran, supporting both the emotional portions of Mukund and Indhu's relationship and the intensity of his journey as a soldier.

The third honour went to R Kalaivanan for Best Editing. The editing is particularly important in a film that moves between different stages of Mukund's life, personal moments and military sequences. The pacing and transitions help connect these different portions into one narrative.

With three National Awards, Amaran has been recognised across direction, music and editing. The honours acknowledge the different creative departments that came together to tell Mukund Varadarajan's story on screen.
