Acting Legend Kota Srinivasa Rao Passes Away at 83

Kota Srinivasa Rao , the prolific Indian actor and former politician, passed away today at the age of 83 due to a prolonged health issue. Known for his versatile performances primarily in Telugu cinema and theater, Kota, as he was fondly called, also left his mark in Tamil, Hindi, Kannada, and Malayalam films. Born on July 10, 1942, Kota Srinivasa Rao enjoyed a career spanning decades, starring in over 750 feature films . He made his acting debut in 1978 with the Telugu film Pranam Khareedu . He went on to play several negative and supporting roles in a wide range of films. Kota also served as an MLA from Vijayawada East in Andhra Pradesh from 1999 to 2004 during his political stint. He won nine state Nandi Awards in various categories, recognizing his exceptional talent as a villain, character actor, and supporting actor. His immense contribution to Indian cinema was further acknowledged in 2015 when he was honored with the Padma Shri, India's fourth highest civilian award. His performances in films like Hello Brother (1994), Siva (1989), and Aha Naa Pellanta (1987) are among the most acclaimed ones. He received his first Nandi Award in 1985 with the Special Jury Award for Pratighatana , marking the beginning of a decorated journey. His ability to portray intense negative roles earned him Best Villain awards for Gaayam (1993), Teerpu (1994), Ganesh (1998), and Chinna (2001). Rao also excelled in more nuanced roles, receiving Best Character Actor for Little Soldiers (1996), Aa Naluguru (2004), and Pellaina Kothalo (2006). In 2002, he was honored with the Best Supporting Actor award for Prudhvi Narayana. Kota shared screen space with many legendary stars and younger actors across generations, including Superstar Krishna, Chiranjeevi, Balakrishna, Nagarjuna, Venkatesh, Mahesh Babu, Pawan Kalyan, Allu Arjun, and Sai Durgha Tej. The tragic death of his only son in a road accident in 2010 deeply affected him, and he was reportedly a shattered man since then, though he continued to pour his heart into his work.
