96, Sathyam Sundaram fame director Prem Kumar criticizes film critics

Director Prem Kumar, acclaimed for his films 96 (remade as Jaanu in Telugu) and Meiyavazhagan (dubbed into Telugu as Sathyam Sundaram ), recently voiced strong criticisms against contemporary film reviewers, asserting that the quality of film criticism has significantly declined. He stated that today's reviewers are a stark contrast to those of the past. He accused many current critics of adopting a negative and unprofessional approach, often targeting films with disparaging language. Furthermore, Prem Kumar alleged that some reviews are agenda-driven , specifically aimed at undermining a film's first-week box office performance. He suggested this is a tactic to prompt producers to engage them for future projects. He even contended that many reviewers, including those who provide positive feedback, lack the requisite talent for effective film criticism. Kumar concluded by emphasizing the substantial negative impact these reviews have on box office revenue, a problem he believes is worsening and requires immediate attention within the Tamil cinema industry, despite acknowledging the existence of a few quality reviewers with niche followings.
